Here at APECS we are committed to leading a change within the industry to move away from plastic waste. 2020 will see us reduce the amount of plastic we are using in our packaging by up to 80%, as well as changing any plastic that we do use to 100% recycled or biodegradable plastic alternatives.
The amount of plastic waste in the world is spiralling out of control, with current figures showing that the world has produced over 8.3 billion tonnes of plastic since 1950. It is estimated that only 9% of this has been recycled, with a huge amount of plastic ending up the world's oceans. There is a reported 1.8 trillion pieces of plastic in the ocean currently and if production continues unchecked, plastic will outweigh fish in the ocean by 2050.
Here at APECS we are committed to making a change and hope that we can lead a charge within the industry to move away from the use of virgin plastic. There is already a huge amount of plastic in the world, so if you can reduce your usage and also use 100% recycled plastic when you need to, you can do your bit to help.
We have also reduced the size of our cylinder packaging, meaning that we can fit more cylinders into each container. This has a positive effect on the environment by increasing the amount of cylinders we can fit into each shipment, in turn reducing our carbon footprint with less deliveries needed.
In our London office we are also doing our bit to help reduce plastic waste by providing staff with re-usable water bottles and coffee cups as well as tote bags. These three small changes help to lower our plastic usage and also save on money!
