Keeping Your Locks Healthy - APECS Dry Lube

APECS Dry Lubricant

When it comes to the locks on your door, many people don’t think too much about them until there is a problem - but just like anything with mechanical moving parts, your locks need a little TLC every now and again!

Lubrication is important to keep your locks at their best for as long as possible. Here at APECS our KM 3*, Sold Secure Diamond Grade Euro Cylinder comes with a 10-Year Warranty and the product is built to last for the long term, but the best way to keep it at peak performance is by ensuring that you lubricate the lock every 6-12 months.

APECS Dry Lube

Here at APECS, we sell our own APECS Dry Lube which is the ideal choice to keep your APECS lock performing at its best for years to come.  is a penetrating dry long-lasting lubricant that can be used with cylinder’s, lock cases, hinges or anything with metal moving parts. It removes water, dust, sand and other contaminants from the item it is used on.

The key features of the APECS Dry Lube are that it cleans, lubricates, and protects. Goes on wet, cleanses and displaces moisture then leaves a non-messy dry coating. When used it breaks down any deposits and penetrates even into the most inaccessible areas. This is due to its clever party trick of being a positively charged liquid, meaning it seeks out and spreads itself across all the negative metal surfaces distributing itself evenly and reaching all parts of the lock. It will loosen seized, rusted and frozen parts and prevents the formation of rust and other corrosives.

The nozzle is designed to fit into the keyway of a cylinder, the bottle is a squeeze design meaning no wasted product and easy to control how much is being used. Once used the product leaves a dry coating that holds up to high pressures, resists water wash-off and will not attract dirt, dust and other abrasives.

It is important to never use WD-40 on your APECS lock as this is not a true lubricant, it is a water and oil displacing solvent and over time this will actually make your lock stickier due to the collection of dust and grime inside the lock.

We also do not recommend using a graphite-based lubricant with the APECS range of cylinders as these can also affect the operating performance of the lock.

When it comes to lubricating your APECS lock, we recommend the APECS Dry Lube or an alternative dry lubricant.
